Welcome to THE FORGE! 9-3-10
MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR EVELYN HERSH ON SATURDAY
A memorial service for Evelyn Hersh, longtime member of UCC/VF, will be held on Saturday morning, September 4th at 11:00 a.m. at UCC Valley Forge. Please keep Evelyn’s family in your thoughts and prayers.
THIS SUNDAY
This past week I have been following a toddler around – my grandson, Colin. It has been wonderful and joyous. Not only that, I have learned a lot of Spanish nouns as he points to various objects and tells me the name of them! Now while it is fun to keep up with Colin, as all you parents and grandparents know, it is also a lot of work. Toddlers are very active and you have to keep your eyes on them all the time. For some reason, they don’t seem to understand that you’d like a minute to check email or read the paper.
It is interesting to note that as we celebrate Labor Day this weekend, the Bible doesn’t have a lot to say about the nature of work. It was the Reformation where a theology of work was developed. Essentially, the Reformation thinkers understood that in all things, we belong to God. And that includes our labor, our work.
This Sunday we will look at work and the theology of labor through the lens of the Reformation understanding that in all we do, we are always within God’s providence.
See you at church!

THE CHOIR WOULD LIKE –
MORE SINGERS!
Senior Choir members will begin rehearsals again next week!!! Seems like it was a short summer, music-wise, but it’s time to get busy again. We meet Thursdays at 7:30 in the choir room for a good time and some singing to prepare for Sunday services. (That seems to be a requirement for church choirs!) We’ve lost members again because of moves from the area, so we’re certainly in need of new singers. If you have any interest in singing, join us. If you don’t like us, you may stop. Perfect attendance is not required. No auditions. Lots of fun. Can’t ask for much more! Hope to see you September 9th!!!!
RALLY DAY PICNIC FOLLOWS WORSHIP - SEPT 12
Be sure to stick around following the worship on Rally Day for good eats - we'll have hoagies (meat and meatless) and drinks, plus the yummy dishes you all bring: last names beginning A-L bring a salad, M-Z bring a dessert. Plus we'll have a loaf of bread and PB & J for any kids (young and old) that prefer it. A sign up is in the Gathering Area so we know how many hoagies to order.
